Helpful Guidelines On Creating An MLA Style Research Paper

MLA style essays are freelance thesis and dissertations which need to be presented in a certain style and format. Not only is the content of these freelance essays important but the conventions need to be followed in case of these dissertations as well. If you need to create an MLA style research essay, here are some guidelines to help you:

  1. The paper should be typed and printed out on 8.5 x 11-inch paper. There should be a one-inch margin on all sides. The text should be double-spaced and a clear font such as Times New Roman should be used. The font used should be such that italics and regular styles should be easily recognizable. The size of the font should be 12.

  2. One space needs to be left after punctuation marks.

  3. Regarding the indentation, the first line should be indented half an inch from the left margin, and it is preferable that the Tab key be used rather than the space bar.

  4. Headers containing the page number should be in the upper right corner

  5. Italics should be used for terms like titles.

  6. End notes should be on a separate page, and it should be placed before the Work Cited page.

  7. Unless you are asked for, you should not make a title page.

  8. The upper left corner of the first page should contain your name, that of your instructor, your course as well as the date. All these should be double-spaced.

  9. The title should be centered and in Title Case.

  10. When there are sections, the sections should be numbered with the Arabic style and followed by a period and space.

  11. If you research, you will find that the sections should resemble each other where grammar is concerned. For example, if short phrases are used, it should be used throughout and not full sentences at times.

  12. Consistency is the key, and the same formatting style is to be used throughout.

These MLA style essays require a lot of homework on the part of the student to ensure that all the formatting is correct. The homework does not only extend to the content of the thesis but to the way it is presented as well. This is the reason why instructors give these MLA style dissertations, to see how well and how much the student actually researches.
